That's so kind of you Jag. I test rode one a few month ago but was unable to get a taste of that top end rush. We should get a hold of bigwheelie and plan a ride. I'm in Austin but wouldn't mind checking some roads up north.

I'm thinking about that color or the new graphite. Are you going to go with Brock's exhaust?

I like the new graphite too. I think my favorite color, other than the HP4 blue which I LOVE, is the red and white.
I like the Motorsports color second and would have bought it off the floor with no problem, but as it is I bought it from an owner locally who traded in his Harley Street Glide for it. He put 300 miles on it and decided it wasn't for him. Show room fresh and his loss was definitely my gain. I wanted one of these bad boys real bad but had no plan to buy one this year after already buying a couple of bikes:( I couldn't afford not to buy it after we discussed pricing:)
Re: exhaust..just not sure at this point. The stocker makes real good power of course, and has decent sound at rpm. It doesn't sound very good at idle though. There are several considerations; Austin Racing,Akropovic and Brocks leading the way for me. I have Brocks CT Duals on my 14 and cannot say enough good things about them. I seriously don't think folks outside of the hyperbike world even come close to appreciating just how good they are. I also think they are still the best looking pipes, (in CT form) on the market and look great on the S1000RR. I honestly don't have any "like" for any other Brocks pipe.
Right now the wish list consists of:
Pazzo blue levers with red adjuster
OEM while rear pillion
Oil cooler and radiator guard from R&G
No cut sliders from R&G
Belly pan from someone, not sure yet. All depends on whether I stay stock, go slip on or full system.

You got lucky, usually people won't get rid of their 1000RR, the used market is really small! The CT is a work of art and I also don't care about the other Brock's pipes. For a liter though I don't think you could go wrong with Akrap. You do have a nice fleet Jagman. Enjoy!

I agree Privateer. I have a cruiser in the M109 and a sport tourer in the zzr1200. I would really like a nice little 600 or something to cut up the twisties on, but I don't have the skill or the nerve to do that. Guess I am getting into the self preservation mode in my old age. I really like those BMW's, but I am afraid I would do something really stupid and push the evelope too much.
Very nice bike!

Thanks guys. I'm really struggling with whether to go the full exhaust route on this or not. The big old cat on it really inhibits not only sound but you can feel the bike being corked up. Thats not to say the bke isn't wicked fast. It is capable of getting one is a LOT of trouble very fast on the street. The funny thing is that people ask me all the time how smooth it is, primarily due to the BMW brand. The fact is, it's very smooth up in the power band, but it never stops reminding you that it's a hot rod liter bike first and would just as soon buck you off, if you don't practice throttle control, as it would keep you on. It's not Honda CBR1000 smooth with great mid range, weaker top end, and overall smooth Japanese liter bike. It's "I wanna go as fast as possible right now" from 4K to 14.2K! It feels faster at idle and that brute of a motor under you has plenty of character, some of it is exhibited in a bit more buzziness at low and extremely high rpms, than other Japanese liters I've ridden. I should add it's not lacking in midrange by any means for 2012, it's just that that isn't the whole story with this bike.
I am feeling the urge to pulll the cat and go with either the Austin Racing systme and belly pan or the Akro Shorty full system. The shorty Akro slip on looks killer on the bike and adds a "little" bit of richness to the sound but not much as long as the cat is there.
I rode by 14R with full Brocks duals back to back with the SThou last night for a couple of short runs. It was like getting out of a BMW 7 Series and getting in a Porsche 911 or BMW M3:) And to think I was worried about the bikes being too similar:)

Go with Akrapovic!
It's a beautiful piece but at over 1k better go full system. On our bikes: high performance machines, I think that a full system is a must. Nowadays they come out with so many restrictions and safety features that they loose some of their racing pedigree.
Here's the Leo which looks like the full Akrap IMO:

This is what I want: Carbon Fiber, add an Akrap to that and he doesn't get better...
If I go Beemer for a track bike I should just go with the HP4, it's decent bargain considering all the money I could put in it. BMW has some sort of "lease" with option to buy deal, I should check it out!
